People may think of reflexology as a pampering foot massage but it is so much more. It is a therapeutic treatment for body, mind and emotions, as well as for the feet.

In reflexology a person is viewed as a whole, not as individual parts. We aim to give support through illness, pain, and times of stress and anxiety. This is achieved by inducing relaxation, releasing stress, tension and improving sleep. This in turn helps to improve mood and increase our sense of self worth and well-being.

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is the practise of applying pressure with the fingers and thumbs to reflex points on the feet that relate to all organs, glands and parts of the body.

Applying pressure to these reflexes works to restore and maintain the body’s natural balance, creating a feeling of vitality and well-being.

There are hundreds of nerve endings in the feet and it is thought that stimulation of these nerves is one way that reflex works.

The trained hands of a reflexologist can feel differences in tone of the reflexes on the feet, this is how we interpret imbalances within each person. Working these points helps to release tension and increase circulation, which helps the body regain its natural balance, physically, emotionally and mentally.

Regular reflexology sessions can help us deal with the effects of stress, injury, illness and disease. To a reflexologist, tension and congestion in the body are mirrored in the feet, so by working the feet we are helping to send messages throughout all the systems of the body which encourages healing throughout.
